The ottomans were the favorite piece of furniture named after the Ottoman Empire, which lasted from 1299 until 1922. The Ottoman Empire spanned three continents, Western Asia, Eastern and Southeastern Europe and North Africa. World War One ended Ottoman rule in these parts of the world, but not the spread of its cherished footstool. Even after the empire lost its power, the name stuck to this very versatile and useful footrest and its popularity spread like wild fire, especially in America. In one sense, the ottomans have reconquered a large share of the world and arguably, more people know the name now than they did when the real Ottomans were in control.
What is great about ottomans & footrests is the fact that there are a wide variety of options to choose from, which makes it easy to find just the right one to match that chair of yours. For example, maybe you have an Adirondack chair that you want a footrest for. Well, you can find an ottoman that has that same type of sloping style with bigger slats. Or, maybe you just have a rocking chair that you want an ottoman for. Then, a fantastic option for that would be an ottoman that also rocks back and forth. There are a lot of other choices available too.
Accent chairs are available in wide range of furniture like ottoman, arm and armless chairs, side chairs, decorative cushioned chairs and leather chairs. All these pieces of furniture are made of high quality wood. Chairs are also available in micro-fiber and leather materials. Micro-fiber materials are stronger and flexible compared to wood. Leather accent chairs are cheap and provides great comfort and style to your room.
Ottomans come in many shapes and sizes. You will want to consider what you are going to be using the ottoman for when making your purchase. If there is a possibility that you want to use it as extra seating in a room you will want to purchase a firm, square shaped ottoman. A round ottoman is best for using as a foot rest.
A storage ottoman can be used in the bedroom as a seat to help when dressing and also as a storage unit for items such as sheets and pillow cases - and even for spare pillows. They can sit 2-3 ft high, the height offering a considerable amount of storage space. When used in this way, they are virtually large upholstered boxes, with the lid padded to provide comfortable seating.
